Weill, who spent three years living in the West Canada Lakes Wilderness, tells the colorful stories of the hikers, sportsmen, and local residents he encountered.
Very nice read. Comical in places, since the author met quite a cross-section of "hikers/campers"....some had never been, and hopefully, with Larry's wit and insight, many came back to our Adks ready to be a REAL hiker/camper, and truly enjoy their experience. Gives you a look into the life of a Ranger, and really appreciate their day-to-day routine - it was a lot more than walking around in the woods. I live in these beautiful mountains that the author speaks of, and he gave me some great ideas on nifty spots to check out. Larry tells great stories of people he met; some of whom remained live-long friends, and some he hopes he never meets again (for good reasson). It's a mixture of funny, informational, and heartfelt. You'd enjoy it, I'm sure.
An amusing, fun read

I picked up a copy of this book when the author was doing a signing at the Adirondack Museum. It really is a delightful read, full of amusing anecdotes, thoughtful observations, and detailed recollection. You can read a few chapters here and there, as I did, and enjoy the book over a long period of time, or you could easily sit down and digest it quickly. Overall, it is a fun and insightful read, and has inspired me to spend more time in the Adirondacks.

Wilderness Park Ranger Days

I was Larry's Wilderness Park Ranger partner in the West Canada Lakes Wilderness Area in 1979. While I was busy filling out official DEC reports, Larry was writing notes for a book later on! He has written a fun, easy to read account of our duties there. Makes me wish I was back there!
Excellant!!!

This book is so good. It is really something that you can sit back and enjoy a relaxing, fun read. It is plain and simple and I loved every word. I laughed and had a little bit better day because of it. When you spend so many days stressed and running here and there, it is so great to take five and laugh and be happy , even if only for a short time, like until the pasta boils over....It is really worth the price and then some.
