Excel 97 has finally arrived, putting in your hands more and better features than ever before. Excel 97 Bible gets you up to speed with all of them quickly -- even if you've never used Excel before. With Excel guru John Walkenbach to guide you, you'll get the low-down on everything from enhanced what-if analysis tools to the easy-to-use Internet Assistant, which turns your spreadsheet into a Web page that others can view over the Internet or your organization's intranet. Comprehensive and authoritative, Excel 97 Bible is the indispensable, all-in-one reference you need to unleash the power of the world's most popular spreadsheet application.
In the section where I work, everyone uses Excel, but outside of entering data and applying a couple of formulas / formats, they are generally clueless as to Excel 97's power. Just two weeks of toying with different things listed in this bible have made me the department guru!As others have mentioned, talk of VBA is short here, but Walkenbach (a tremendous writer) has a VBA for Excel 2000 book out (not a bible) that looks to cover VBA for Excel 97 as well, so I am looking to purchase that next. Bibles are cool - Wife has the Access Bible, and that one rules, too.

This is a well written, easy-to-understand Excel reference manual. Not a book to curl up with next to the fireplace, but the one to open if you're having a problem with an Excel application. Light on VBA material, but the author points this out at the start. Other than VBA, you should be able to find an answer to any Excel question that might arise.
Compelling Exce 97 Learning Aid

I have had this book for quite some time, and I think it is fantasic. As a corporate trainer, I write the book information on the board in case the students want to buy a reference source. I also include the author's website, which is another cool source of information. For me, this book was something I skimmed at first, then read chapters pertinent to my own needs. Since then, I have started at the beginning to read each chapter page by page because there are lots of learning tips to be found that way. While there are a few typos and a couple of things that aren't perfect, I would not hestitate to buy anything Mr. Walkenbach writes because I think he did a superb job with this book. He used easy to understand terminology and descriptions, and shows a marvelous sense of humor while doing so. I can't wait to explore a book from him on Excel 97 Macros!

Real good book for finding your way around Excel 97 without having to use the annoying help screens. Has the basics of VBA but needs to have more detail to really learn to program in VBA.
