Annie Richards (1845-1930) was one of South Australia's early pioneering women. Married to a policeman, she lived for over fifteen years in one of the remotest parts of the colony. Despite her efforts being largely ignored in an area where gentlewomen dominated, she always considered herself 'a lady' and believed that such an interest would bring her acceptance in polite society.
