This beautifully illustrated anthology is the perfect way for families to introduce their children to the classic stories of the Bible. An inspiring collection of one hundred tales, from both the Old and New Testament, this treasury celebrates the universal themes of love, compassion and understanding. Christina Balits stunning illustrations illuminate this perfect family gift to give or receive.
This book is absolutely stunning with its colorful illustrations of the stories of the Bible. It is a compliment to the artistic senses of grade-school children, and has been a joy for our family to read. The book is broken into about 100 stories, with each story told and beautifully illustrated on two pages (perfect for bedtime reading). Although the bible stories are simplified for children, I appreciated that the text does not "talk down" to children. Overall an excellent resource for exposing young people to the rich collection of classic stories that make up the Bible.
Beautiful, engaging Biblical storytelling

Vibrant, energetic artwork, good narrative. I discovered this gorgeous book in our public library and am purchsing a copy for our church's library. Sunday school teachers will appreciate the child-friendly (but not at all patronizing) narrative to enrich their lessons.
Biblical and beautiful

I use this book often in my Sunday School class and also enjoy reading it myself for 1)the biblically faithful text and 2)the beautiful illustrations which capture the essence of the stories. In this book seasoned children's author Lois Rock retells stories from the Old and New Testaments up to the Day of Pentecost in a flowing narrative style while staying close to the biblical text and occasionally working in some necessary explanations of terminology and background. The 25 stories are divided into 100 sub-stories each occupying two facing pages with an illustration covering a full page or parts of both pages. Each scene generally captures the essence of the story. Christina Balit's illustrations of water color, gouache and gold ink are sharply colorful, stylized and modern with a Middle Eastern flavor (most the the characters are depicted with dark wavy hair.) These artistic gems make this book worthy of a place in the gift shop of the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, where I purchased my copy, and a place on my coffee table.
