I beg to differ with the previous reviewer. This book is fun and gentle, plus it has some lovely recipes and party ideas. (Including a bug themed kids party, which I don't see is a problem.) The parties are fun and relatively simple, despite the "royal" connection (Paul Burrell was Princess Diana's butler for many years.) Very middle-class British, but gracious and well-bred nevertheless. The book is not particularly focused, but it doesn't pretend to be. It is a book of parties. I have a number of party books that are organized around examples of individual parties, as this one is. So this is not the book for you if you are planning to have only one party book, which will explain all you need to know for all parties. But if you are looking for good ideas and a pleasant read, you will enjoy this book. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for this book because we used one of the recipes at my wedding -- the Scotch Eggs made with tiny quail's eggs. These were wonderful, much nicer than a full sized Scotch Egg, although the caterer did tell me that peeling 200 hard boiled quail eggs is not something he is going to do again soon.
