Due to hunting, pollution and other problems, many species of animals are on the verge of extinction. This book shows children which animals are endangered and invites them to draw their own - dot-to-dot. As each creature is completed, details of size, location, habitat and so on are revealed. Animals including the bald eagle, the blue whale, the snow leopard and the white rhinoceros are included. When the book is completed it will form a permanent record filled with facts and pictures.
As a school based occupational therapist working with students, I found this workbook very helpful in several areas, including increasing visual attention and fine motor control of the pencil stroke, and improving ocular motor skills used in reading called saccades, where the eyes jump from one spot to the next. Children from ages 7 and up are very interested in these animals, and enjoy choosing which one they want to do. The numbered dots range from the 70s to over 110. Children are also able to read a biography of the animal on the opposite page of the picture, making it an overall interesting activity for the child and the adult!
