There is not much in the way of printed biography of Emeril Lagasse; this is not a fabulous book-but it is about a fabulous chef, personality, and a star. It is certainly worth the read for any Emeril fan. Let the critics whine... The fact is that this guy really cooks and he is great at it; just try a few of his recipes. He is also a great personality and a real TV star. So what that he puts a little jazz in his TV shows; he still cooks and teaches. I have learned a great deal about cooking from his shows. I find myself always doing searches for his recipes. He mastered New Orleans cuisine and re-invented it; and having lived there three times during my career- it is no easy task. They have some of the best restaurants in the world and if you're not good you don't survive long there. This book gives a very good look at his personal life; he certainly is a self made man. He has worked extremely hard to get where he is today. That becomes very clear when you read this biography. He has paid the price for working hard and long hours; but he is honest about his mistakes. You can tell he is a good person and a person that never forgets his humble up bringing in a working class town.
