Friedrich Wilhelm Krummacher (1796-1868) was an eminent German theologian and writer of the nineteenth century. Although largely forgotten today, his deep Christian writings made him famous on both sides of the Atlantic, and one of his most famous books was Elijah the Tishbite. In this book, Rev. Krummacher looks at the prophet Elijah. Taking the biblical references to Elijah one-by-one, he looks at Elijah and the lessons that the Christian can draw from his life.First off, I must explain that this book is not a biography of the prophet Elijah. The book is heavy in theology and the casual reader will find it to be slow reading indeed. However, Rev. Krumacher intended this book to be a devotional book. As such, the sections, with their homilies and exhortations, are best read one at a time, over an extended period (which is how I read it). This is a very good devotional book, one that I recommend to any Christian.
