My intensive preoccupation with the subject of "teaching and learning" began, apart from my teaching as a professor, around twelve years ago with the request of Willi Lemke, then Bremen's Senator for Education and Science, in front of a large number of teachers from Bremen in the beautiful town hall and give teachers a lecture entitled "Why is teaching and learning difficult?" In this lecture I tried to build a bridge between the questions of school education and the new findings of psychology and brain research on teaching and learning.
