insightful and enticing

This is absolutely the best design book I've come across so far, the pictures are so beautifully alluring that in creates a deep curiosity to see what the words actually say to describe the image and its contents. If only finding the beautiful furniture was a easy as fliping through the gorgeous pages.

What is elegance and how can we achieve it in our home? Ms. Bartlett answers this question and guides us on the concepts of simplicity, comfort and function while maintaining stylish individuality through design. Gorgeous photographs demonstrate several renditions of elegance through the use of old and new elements. Every room, as well as outdoor space, is addressed and each style is relaxed, approachable and easily accomplished without looking "decorated." A must-have book for fans of an understated yet elegant approach to decorating.

Possibly the Best Design Book I've Read

I bought this book on a whim and it was even better than it seemed at first glance. The cover shot is an eclectic bohemian glam style, but the 'easy elegance' concept applies to multiple styles including modern, country and retro. Bartlett walks you through the concept of 'easy elegance' by reviewing it's four tenets: comfort, simplicity, function and individuality. Then it explains how to establish this in each room of the house. You'd be surprised what a relief the 'easy elegance' vibe is. It's all about making a functional home full of what you love. It is not about details, paint colors and finishing touches. Bartlett is all about establishing the right vibe in your home, injecting yourself through your choice of furnishings. It is just the book I've been looking for.
