Dune Cat was written for the author's two children, when they were aged one and four. The main character, Dune Cat, is based off of his real-life experiences living and working in Truro, Massachusetts, one summer in college. The illustrations in the book were done by the author's daughter. At eight years of age, she was no longer the little four-year-old the story was written for. Her imagination and love of drawing, however, enabled her to be part of this very special endeavor.

The illustrations in Dune Cat are as they should be for a children's book - conceived in the mind of and written by the hand of a child.
