Book Overview

Crochet spectacular afghans, that were created by top designers and selected by Donna Kooler. Crafters familiar with Donna's own cross-stitch projects know that she has an exceptional eye for recognizing motifs that will look beautiful in needlework. These afghans are no exception. They reflect different styles and will enhance a variety of settings, from a nursery to the family room. If you haven't crocheted in a while or are unfamiliar with some of the stitches, review the information on a few basic techniques required to complete the terrific projects that follow. Soft afghans in soothing shades make wonderful gifts for infants. "Baby Blocks" consists of five different color panels, while "Baby Car Seat Cover" features eye-catching diamonds. Either one will be appreciated by parents for years to come. Country is a timeless decorating style that is well-suited to afghans. The star stitches and color changes make "Galaxy" as enjoyable to work on as it is a pleasure to look at. Other projects are distinctive because of their bright and cheerful patterns. "Growing Garden Afghan," for example, blooms with pretty, variegated flowers and leaves crocheted in strips that are then pieced together. Among your sophisticated and elegant choices is "Aran Afghan," which is rich in texture. It's composed of seven panels: one center double diamond, and two each of bars, bobbles, and basket-weave. Would you like to make gifts for the men in your life? The "Magic Square Lap Robe" and "Basket-weave Blanket" would be perfect. Your hardest decision will be which one to crochet first! Book jacket.

great afghans, new stitch ideas

This book has a good number of great afghans I plan to make. There are many pattern "creators" in this book (they are not all patterns by Donna Kooler) which makes for a great variation of styles and stitches. Up until now I have only made afghans from the Leisure Arts books, and this one has some refreshing new stitches and pattern ideas (including the cover item). I was anxious to start one from this book simply for the challenge! It does have different abbreviations than Leisure Arts uses, which threw me off a little at first, but are easy to adjust to. Baby afghans included.
