Does This Cape Make Me Look Fat?: Pop Psychology for Superheroes

Saving the world is hard enough, but what about the tests of inner strength faced by today's harried superhero? Unafraid to tackle the tough questions, Does This Cape Make Me Look Fat? offers illustrated self-help guidance for the caped crusader on the subjects of costume choice and self-esteem, guilt and x-ray vision, getting along with a sidekick, thriving in the team environment, negotiating a secret identity at work, and more. The action-packed, comic book-style illustrated advice will help heroes conquer fear of flying, get in touch with super feelings, and choose the nemesis that's right for them. Also including practical advice for avoiding lawsuits, coming up with a good catch-phrase, and maintaining super hair, this hilarious self-help manual--and sly pop psychology satire--brings the help heroes need right to their gloved fingertips.

LOL!

This is quite possibly the most funny thing I have read for pop-psychology ever. I loved it! This is set up as a manual to new super heroes wanting to be prepared for the psychological trauma they might get into being a super hero. This is even a fairly good study book, if you want a break from undergraduate studies, but still want something to keep your mind on psychology. I absolutely loved the dealing with side kicks, mentioning that most are orphans so what to expect from them. Also almost every page has wonderful drawings, making it just fun to flip though.

Super-Empowering!

This is an amazing book, one of my all-time favorites! Most self-help books are so serious they really annoy me, but this one is perfect. Some people might not 'get it' but anyone who relates to the Superhero archetype (social activists, therapists, social workers, etc.) will find this to be a compassionate and funny read. The authors and illustrator really understand the mythic mind and issues that face the superhero - including managing one's secret identity, sex and romance with super-team colleagues, and coping with the paralyzing insecurities that plague the super-gifted. An invaluable support in living lightly with one's compulsion to save the world.
