This book considers the inner world of the child and argues that children are more capable than many of us realise. Babies make their needs known; toddlers can walk for miles; teenagers are equipped... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This is a wonderful parenting book advocating attachment parenting. After Jackson's book "Three In A Bed - Why you should sleep with your baby", I was curious to follow up and find out at what age her children started sleeping on their own. "Do Not Disturb" turned out to be the most thought provoking parenting book that I have ever read. It is full of family anecdotes and quotations from other great books, but overall it is about learning to respect our babies and children, and trusting in the child's own learning process. Jackson talks about trusting our children instead of always issuing warnings like "don't touch" and "be careful", because only when a child's "judgement is called into question does he doubt himself. When a mother over-protects her child, his natural steering begins to go off course." So carry your baby around in a sling, nurse and sleep with your child, but when she totters along the edge of the pond, don't yell at her...just make sure you pack her a change of clothes!
