Wonderful lesson meets charming dirtball

This is a book that will have loads of appeal to both adults and kids alike. There's quite a bit of humor directed at parents, as the author sends up mom's eternal quest to clean up their children so they can be proud of them. Kids will love Dirtball Pete's unashamed dirtiness and stinkiness. It is at the end when mom and everyone in the audience of the school play realizes that you can't judge a book by its cover, and that kids can be dirty and special too, that the book's message delivers its resounding punch. It's a good lesson that's been told often, but this author manages to do it in a way that's more sophisticated and original. And Dirtball Pete? Now that's one cute little guy who portrays his role of the kid who can't help getting dirty to a tee. This is a book that's loaded with charm and a perfect fit for any kid age 4 -7. Recommended.
