Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget

I'm so happy that I purchased the book " Decorative Painting- Step by Step". I'd been wanting to change our bedroom from country cottage to luxurious retreat- but on the cheap! I thought the price of this book was too good to be true(under $5? Amazing!)so I expected to get a little pamphlet or something. I was so wrong! This book is chock a block full of so many creative ideas,with everything clearly explained, and the photos are so colorful! Anyone trying the techniques in this book would save time & money too. I was interested in stenciling my bedroom- and I don't mean stenciling a border around the top of my room-that's so eighties! I bought a gorgeous bedroom set (on sale of course!)- very opulent with several fancy fringy pillows -fit for the queen that I am! It has a light aqua background with chocolate brown scrolls all over it. Then I bought a three set of 8 X 10 sheets of mylar that you can see through. You can get them at most craft stores. Then I placed the mylar on top of one of the scrolly designs on the bedspread (tape it with painter's tape), traced the design with a sharpie pen and took it off the spread. Now, here's the BEST tip I got from this book- buying a hot stencil gun to "cut out " the stencil instead of trying to cut such an intricate design with an Exacto knife! I stencilled the bottom half of the room on the diagnol. It's gorgeous! Now we can afford champagne to toast our new boudoir!
