... but then, no one expects working for a dentist to be a barrel of laughs. Mimsie Crane never manages to keep a job for long, and between periods of temping she works for a dodgy builder called Steve Epps, who offers the nearest thing to regular employment. However, when she arrives one Monday to discover her current boss tied to his dentist's chair -- wearing little more than a clump of daffodils -- and the surgery vandalised, Steve Epps is the only man she can think of to turn to. Suddenly, Mimsie is pitchforked into a bizarre manhunt in which a stalker is apparently targeting all the dentist's staff. Then, one of her co-workers is strangled and Mimsie finds herself in real danger ...
I am an inveterate mystery reader--especially British "cozies"--hate that word! I enjoyed the swift-moving plot and original situations of this one. I would have liked to see Mimsie Crane become the heroine of a series, but it appears it was not to be. I wonder why? She has an appealing personality--a bit like a Carola Dunn girl-but of the nineties-and all sorts of future plot possibilites could have been built around her devil-may-care persona. Coulda done without the herpes.
