Book Overview

Daily Handwriting Practice, Contemporary Cursive is more than just a handwriting book; it's a learning tool that helps developing young minds practice basic skills in an interesting and unique way.

For example, on the topic "Simple Machines," students learn about simple tools and the physics applied in using them. Students write letters, words, and sentences about a variety of content-area topics appropriate for the classroom.

Monday through Thursday, the weekly subjects for writing exercises range from famous inventors to famous quotations, amazing hunters to the water cycle. On Friday, a full-page exercise draws the topic to a close by reviewing what was learned earlier that week.

This book is a useful and effective teaching tool because each letter is introduced and practiced before students are asked to use it.

Curriculum topics addressed include:

the alphabet capital letters rhyming words months of the year days of the week world alphabets geography facts synonyms nonsense rhymes color words alliteration U.S. presidents simple machines math rhyming words prefixes and suffixes

Skills reinforced that help keep handwriting legible include:

correct letter formation letter placement spacing between letters spacing between words

This resource contains teacher support pages and reproducible student pages. This is a reproducible resource (photocopying of lessons is permitted) for single classroom or individual home use only.

Great so far, perfect for messy writers

My 13yo always had fantastic art skills, but has struggled with handwriting in recent years. There is something sensory factoring in and she is currently getting OT for it. In the meantime, writing print was hard and she will write each letter then trace over it 3-4 times before moving on. This takes FOREVER and her hand wears out. This book was recommended from a teacher friend and I got it just thinking of general cursive skills, but we have quickly realized that cursive resolves a lot of the problems she has with printing. Not picking up the pen off the page prevents her retracing it all. She is still writing slowly as she learns, but I am now focused on her really learning cursive so it can be her default writing. Her peers may not be able to read it, but we will cross that bridge when we come to it! I like the quality of the book and the weight of the paper, etc. My daughter likes the assignments and does them with minimal prompting/reminding.

A GREAT CURSIVE REFRESHER

I bought Daily Handwriting Practice: Contemporary Cursive for my 19 year old granddaughter. I noticed she printed everything, including her signature. She had been printing for so long she didn't remember how to do cursive! This workbook is more advanced than some of the other workbooks, that seem more for younger grades. It didn't take long before my granddaughter learned how to do cursive again.

Daily Handwriting Practice

We really like this handwriting book! Its very concise, with each day's practice laid out in an easy-to use format for both teacher and student. The poems and writing exercises are interesting and fun!

Just what we were looking for.

We were happy to have discovered this series. My 2 boys had already learned the formation of the letters, but still needed practice in writing. This series of books fit the bill perfectly! The practice is divided into daily amounts and the children are learning other information through the writing. Instead of simply copying letters or words focused on one letter, they are putting the whole alphabet into practice while writing and therefore learning about the topic of the day. They have found this much more interesting and are actually enjoying their handwriting time now.
