I picked up this book, described as a "mystery". The author, Margaret Yorke, is a pst chairman of the Crime Writers' Association. What she has written is not so much a mystery, but a psychological thriller. She is adept at showing how small flaws in the character lead to crimes. The setting is a smaller, seemingly idyllic town, Middle Bardolph, is rotten underneath with hidden secrets. I could not put it down, but was drawn into the characters and their problems, anxious to see how connections were made. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars as I found the ending to be a let-down. But I'm off to find more Margaret Yorke novels!
