I got this book to study for the National Board of Professional Teaching with specialty in School Counseling. It was exactly what I was looking for. I had purchased another book, but that one was too dense. This book gives a brief discussion of specific approaches to counseling students and families from African American, Asian, Hispanic, Arab and Native American backgrounds. This is one of the few books I found that addresses Arab American issues. My only complaint is that they lump Africans and African Americans in the same group. Being a first generation African immigrant, I know that many African Americans, while they still maintain some trace of African culture, their world view is distinct from Africans entering the country now. That's to be expected because they have assimilated into the larger American Society.
