This multimedia CD-ROM complements the popular intermediate Chinese language textbooks Connections I and II. Organized to correspond to lessons in the textbooks, each lesson on the CD-ROM contains texts, songs, and exercises. Students can listen to recordings of the text while characters are highlighted on the screen, and can access English translations or pinyin versions of the text alongside Chinese characters. Each lesson is accompanied by a song appropriate to the topic, and exercise sections include work on vocabulary, grammar, and listening and reading comprehension. Like the Connections textbooks, the CD-ROM emphasizes real-world conversation and printed materials (advertisements, maps) in situations relevant to the interests of college students (cross-cultural communication, college life, dating, work, and other contexts).Jennifer Li-chia Liu is Associate Professor of East Asian Languages and Cultures atIndiana University. She is co-author, with Margaret Mian Yan, of Interactions I and II: A Cognitive Approach to Beginning Chinese (IUP, 1998) and author of Connections I and II: A Cognitive Approach to Intermediate Chinese (IUP, 2004).
