The Complete Idiot's Guide to Microsoft Works Suite 2000 is a great way for a beginner to stop feeling like an Idiot. Jargon is explained in the text as it comes up instead of hiding away back in a glossary like some computer books. Instructions are clear and step by step. The book is designed to be hands-on so that you can actually accomplish something on the computer as you go. There are tips and sidebar boxes that explain what to do and how to stay out of trouble. The chapter layout is set up so that someone could choose to go through the book step by step or just look up and do the thing they want to do at the moment. If you are really sensitive about the title, cover the book with a brown paper bag and use it anyway. This is an excellent reference for any beginner.
