Combining a written text with numerous photographs, musical examples and practice exercises, this guide provides all the pedagogical, historical and technical material necessary for the successful instruction of brass. Featuring detailed discussions of the many instruments in use today, the author presents the reader with an invaluable, up-to-date guide to brass pedagogy and technique.
This book has an excellent overall pedigogical approach to brass. Good historical outline of each instrument; good description of accessories; list of recordings for each instrument; group examples that can be performed with the entire class. An added bonus is a section that includes pictures of famous performers and ensembles. The only reservation that I have with this resource is that, in my opinion, the ensemble materials progress too rapidly. I would strongly recommend this book for university brass technique (music education) courses and for public/private school music educators.
