One hundred years ago, three visionary women saw the need for a Protestant presence in Saddleback Valley in Southern California. With the help of a missionary pastor, Lucille McGaughey, Blanche Dolph, and Margaret Cook formed a Sunday school in 1916. It originally met in the Woodman Hall, a community meeting center and dance hall, located in San Juan Capistrano. The Sunday school evolved into a church, officially chartered with the Presbyterian Church in 1919, with forty-eight charter members. Soon these members built a church building of their own, which opened its doors on El Camino Real in 1922. With continued growth, Community Presbyterian Church moved to its current site on Del Obispo Street in 1968, thanks to the generous donation of land by C. Russell Cook. Remembering the past, and believing in the future, we continue in service, grace, and faith.
