Concise and well worth it.

An excellent and fairly extensive collection of short biographies on history's greatest military leaders. Lucas knows just how much detail is needed on each person's life to educate the reader, and when to back off from compiling useless facts. British historians have a bad habit of assuming that the reader has a lot of knowledge beforehand, but this work shows that they can also write effectively for us novices too.One of the best books I have ever read. From it, I gained a tremendous amount of knowledge in a very short amount of time. I wish all books could pack as much accurate information into so readable a form, and I've read hundreds of books on scores of topics. Highly recommended for anyone needing a quick intro into military history.
