The Revolutionary War Pension applications provide many interesting facts about the real people who served in the Revolutionary War, but some subjects are still an enigma. Over and over, people ask, "But where were our men at the battle of Klock's Field?" They were there, but fought under different commanders. Like so many families, Colonel Jacob Klock's family was torn asunder by divided loyalties. Tories, every family seemed to have them. The colonel was a very public figure and then as now, gossip can destroy a person's reputation. The people around the colonel were distressed by the Tory inclination of some of his family members. Reverend Gros was a personal friend of Governor George Clinton and it was he who wrote a letter advising the governor of the situation in the area. The governor listened and acted accordingly. This book contains the pension applications of SOME of the men who served under Colonel Jacob Klock. It is not designed to be the definitive or complete story of what happened, but to be a view of part of it. Once more, this book is a gift to the Fort Plain Museum.
