Dawn until dusk, the city is alive with sounds, from the TING-ALING- A-LING of an alarm clock in the morning to the BEEEEEP BEEEEP of traffic in the afternoon to the quiet SHHHHHHHHHHHHHH of evening. Noted illustrator Beppe Giacobbe's bright palette and pleasing cityscapes bring the excitement of the city to life in a story that begs to be read aloud again and again.
We love this book. We checked it out from the library and it quickly became one of my 2-year-old's favorites, so we bought it. We still love it.

a terrific book on city noises for preschoolers
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 15 years ago
In this striking picture book, a young boy hears the different noises the city makes from morning to night. This is a terrific bedtime story for preschoolers or even toddlers; the rhyming text is extremely simple, and the illustrations, with their bright, unusual palette for cityscapes, will grab the attention of the child. The story begins with waking up in the morning with an alarm clock and ends with the city peacefully falling asleep. Various noises are depicted in the illustrations, and young children will enjoy imitating the clang clang of the bridge arms, the coo coo of the pigeons, and other typical city noises. It's also a great read-aloud for story times in classrooms or libraries. Highly recommended, especially for little boys!
