Twelve-year-old Arron Ashworth braced himself in the back of the bouncing pickup, anxiously cushioning his best friend's head in his lap. Chipper lay unconscious, barely breathing as they sped down... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I would recomend this book to everyone. I grew up with Chipper after his accident, and never really knew what had happed to him, (I didn't want to ask). To here what he had to go through, he is a very tough person. This is a must read.

What a wonderful book! I have a child who has a traumatic brain injury and was recommended this book by a website chatroom group who supports families living with brain trauma. We all have our own little trials to live through and sometimes it is very encouraging to know there is others who are going throught the same if not worse problems. I know now if I have patience and keep at it I can also live through my childs traumatic brain injury and be a better and stonger person for it. We need more people like the Mangum's who will share their story and give the world promise and inspiration. There have been times when I thought I could not go on or I can not fight this battle any longer and along came this book and helped me to not feel so sorry for myself. I hope there is a sequel to the rest of Chipper's story because it leaves the reader hungry for more. Thank you for publishing and selling this book. I have recommended it to everyone including my children's school teachers.

Thank you so much for a wonderful true story that kept my children eager to hear more. I am a mother who reads to my 5 children a few minutes each night. The "Chipper" book is one of the only books I have read to my family where they wanted me to continue more and more every night. Because of the nature of the accident, the age of the boy and the fact that is was called a miracle--it really is a miracle. As a mother my heart was breaking for "Chipper's" mother and dad and the terrible circumstances they where forced to try to take control of. I do believe my children appreciate me more as a mother since we have finished this book. I will recommend this book to everyone--which is something considering the book choices we have for our children. Please contine to publish more true stories like this book. It is definately two thumbs up!
Heartwarming, courageous and best of all a true story.

This is a very humbling story of a tragic accident that marks a families lifestye forever. Chipper is the result of a severe blow to the head by a very large ponderosa pine tree. His friends frantically try tokeep him alive until life support and air ambulances pick him up. After months in a children's hospital and hours of brain surgery--emerges a totally different person. The Mangum family endure so many hardship-financially, emotionally, socially and spiritually. When Chipper returns home--the schools do not know how to teach this surviver of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), his friends no longer understand him and his family struggles to find a place for him in society. This heartwarming story will melt your heart and I promise you will cry a bucket of tears as you live through the struggles of this family. I will not give the ending away but if you believe in HOPE and MIRACLES--this book is a winner. I was so encouraged by the strength of the human heart and spirit that is probably in all of us. A fantasic true mother's story that she hopes no other mother is forced to live through. A must to read for all ages...only have kleenex handy...you will need it. It makes me want to know more about Chipper and his life today. Sometimes our lives are so full of darkness that we fell their is no light left in the world...this wonderful story has filled my life with so much sunshine, it makes the darkness not so hard to enddure. Thank you for the opportunity for me to comment on this book. I originally purchased this book for my school classroom but have since given many copies away to friends for Christmas. I even undertand a student of mine who was in a motorcycle accident and resulting in a brain injury. I really feel I can teach him after reading some of the wonderful ideas in this book. A real MUST for all classrooms.
