This special issue of CENTRO Journal, guest edited by Carlos Garrido Castellano and Laura Bravo Lopez, approaches the current state of displacement from the artistic and cultural contexts in Puerto Rico, with the aim of analyzing how cultural mobility and "cultural remittances" are redefining common ground. We use the term counterstream, coined by Juan Flores in the Diaspora Strikes Back (2009), to refer to a set of cultural practices tied to the knowledge, experiences and attitudes that Puerto Ricans who have lived abroad have introduced upon their return to the island. Using this context as our starting point with the intention of mapping it geographically and chronologically, this special issue expects to broaden its cultural implications to another series of practices, both related and unrelated to vital diaspora experiences."
