It is the cusp between the Bronze and Iron Ages. Jangchi Makika was 14 when her village near Samarkand was destroyed by barbarian raiders and her family killed. Alone, she reaches the city and finds her friend, a young man called O'g'li. There's is a tale of adventure as they magically travel to a distant land. While Jangchi has some latent powers, it is there her skills are honed. The story was inspired by long forgotten lines of verse, written by a bored monk in the scriptorium of the Abbey of St. Fectin. The author came across this snippet while reading Early Irish History at Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland.
