Better writing, more character development and emotional insight etc. than the other books in this series, and yet with a better "mystery" to boot! (although some of the twists are still a little telegraphed). Less pedantic, with a deeper and less hammer-on-the-head leftist agenda. One query for Ms. Slovo, re: an untied-up-loose-end: what happened to Kate's alto saxophone hobby! (it's believable that she gave it up when she left England, but it's strange that she doesn't even refer to that fact...)
