Psychiatric Case Studies; Discussion; and Treatment
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 19 years ago
Great book showing case studies in psychiatry, discussions of those patients, and their treatment. There are 24 cases presented, from organic brain syndromes, to functional psychoses, from hysterical neuroses to transvestism, from transient situational disturbances to juvenile delinquency. The book is seriously outdated (1971) which is what makes it such a treasure. Treatment for many cases involved electroshock and sodium amytal therapy. Most of the cases are also interpreted psychoanalytically. There are two cases which are interestingly viewed within the framework of psychodrama and Jung's archetypal symbolism (including patient drawings). The book, although well-written academically, is kind of a difficult read from front to back but if you like case studies as I do, this book is for you. Two favorite cases are 1) a boy's psychosis induced by gasoline inhalation and 2) the woman who thought her ears were antennae and her head a piece of ravioli.
