Walter Karp, one of the greatest political writers ever (see Indispensable Enemies and The Politics of War) puts together a collection of his best essays. I cannot too highly recommend this book. With one or two exceptions, I found the essays informative, very thoughtful, and well-written. Karp relentlessly defends the ideals of the American republic from all its foes, from Woodrow Wilson to Ronald Reagan. My personal favorite was his essay on of Robert Kennedy (very critical), but there are several others just as good. Although Karp regretfully died in 1989, his themes are just as relevant today as they ever were. Get this book ASAP.
