In Volume 11 of the Officer Pamela Parker Series, the Chief of Police in the Borough of Beach Haven, New Jersey begins the summer of 2024 on a high note. With professional and personal aspects of her life going well, she's up for the madness of July 4th.
So much for assumptions. Instead of ready, willing and able for the job and for life, Chief Parker finds herself homeless, fumbling multiple balls in the air. Police negligence and hostile colleagues out to get her, and griping residents keep her at loose ends during the day, and awake at night. Against this background, the bedlam of the 4th turns out to be the least of her worries.
Hard to believe, but her life and work turn out to be more maddening in August as the downward spiral continues. Shaken by the egregious wrongdoing she witnesses, Parker attempts to figure out what she can do to right things on the job while maintaining her integrity. Her struggles are so intense that she even questions how important it is for her to follow her conscience.
As the drama unfolds, Parker tries to recapture her dedication to the Queen City of Beach Haven. As she does so, she can't help wondering if the price she'll be forced to pay is worth it: Abandoning her principles and casting aside her honor.
