Everything you need to create your own 3D game engine Most game programming books hand you a finished game engine and then tell you how to add on a few features, so you're locked into someone else's design from the beginning. But why compromise? This book shows you how to build your own custom engine from scratch using AST3D, a powerful 3D graphics library that's included on the disk. Now you can build the game you want, and you'll never have to pay a licensing fee again. This book/disk set, written by professional game programmer Brian Hook, gives all the technical details, shortcuts, and tricks of the trade he had to learn the hard way. Find out how to: Design and develop games like the professionals Create real-time 3D graphics games Implement collision and boundary detection Create "intelligent" entities using AI algorithms Disk includes: AST3D, a C++ library specifically designed for 3D game programming Source code for Borland and Watcom C++ compilers An original 3D game engine you can use to create your own games
Tell you 3d thory and 3d texture mapping. you must use BC++4.5(under windows98 ME)to compile and link it. The whole code can help you building your own 3d system. If you are 3d programmer ,must buy it...

This book is just what I needed to get off the ground. I program for a living in the data realm and this book made great sense to me. It was very easy to follow.
Great Book

This book is a great book on programming game engines. Brian, as some us know, is one of the top 3 game programmers at ID Software. He makes the engine, not the game. Don't expect to learn how to make a game from this book. If you are, I suggest one of Andre Lemothe's books.

If your are an experience C++ programmer, intrested in 3d tech, this book will fall apart quite rapidly from over-reading. I like his style, and his code is to the point. Advanced only. This book is not for novice programmers. I feel good for brian, whom probably made a killing off those thousands of teen superstar coders who didn't read the title ;) Anyways, if you are a intelligent individual with lots of (advanced)code under there belt, and is willing to work like a MF, this is an execellent book, and is an entry point into the field.
This book is great for advanced-intermidiate game designers

I thought this book was great because it taught me how to make 3d game engines like flight simulators and stuff. This book was very comprehensive and told all of the tips and tricks of 3d game designing. JUST A MESSAGE TO EVERY ONE WHO WROTE BAD REVIEWS!!! This book was not made for people who just started game/graphics programming. You have to have a good understanding of many graphics methods and you have to know high school math. This book was not designed for beginners
