Expression of Childhood Fears

"Bubble & Squeak" is the story of two mice siblings and their Mom. Bubble is new big sister and Squeak is her baby sister. While Bubble sleeps in her crib, Squeak has a talk with her Mom. She asks her Mom what she'd do if her little sister is afraid of monsters in the room, or she needs a drink late at night. It soon becomes evident, however, that perhaps Squeak is expressing her own concerns, just as much as she's expressing concerns about Bubble. Plenty of picture books feature anthropomorphic / human-like mouse characters. As far as things go overall, I'd rate "Bubble & Squeak" as quite cute and charming. The characters are a delight to look at and the illustrations are warm, rich and detailed. The story is probably somewhat too long and complex for younger readers to read on their own, but would work well for readaloud. A good story for someone with a new sibling who wants to help their new brother or sister, but still has fears of their own.
