These stories, poems, and drawings provide the first survey of the work of a writer and artist who has achieved world recognition for an entirely different reason -- he is one of the best-known... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I got this book because Mark Gonzales is the greatest skateboarder ever. Once I read it, I realized that every story is great, and you can read every story over and over and over again. I love it. It's in my top 3 books of all time and probably will be forever.
Mark Gonzales slips into your thinking in the gentlest way.

The stories are greatly moving and many are heart-breaking, like "Shoot Me," "Bust Your Nose. Tickle Your Toes," Even "Playing Hooky," "Walking Feet," and "Take My Word For It," where the loneliness is interrupted by magic. They have great plot twists. I completely believe them and empathize with the characters. Parents can get so caught up in their pride and need to exercise authority, so confused about how to help the child, that they are oblivious to the child's own pride. My favorite is the one where the boy sells his parents' furniture. Where did you get the idea for that? Why I like it: he gets revenge in a way that makes me laugh and feel terrible at the same time. He doesn't shoot someone or get shot and make me really cry; instead I just feel uncomfortable. But I love all the other ones, too. There are so many incredible lines, like "Burger picked his nose steadily for most of his life."
Great plot twists. Very moving.

This book is a great example of what made Mark so loved in the skate community. There are probably 6 or 7 stories in here and they all leave you feeling a sense of trueness and reality. The poetry section is great, they are poems that you can read over and over and feel different meanings for them every time. The stories have all appeared in THRASHER magazine, but even if you have read them, this is still a great book to have. Long live the gonz!

ok here it is the best book I've read to date. first off this guy is a unmerited genuis. he wraps up society into these little short stories and simplton drawings. I recomend that everyone runs out and buy this book not only because this is a peek into the world of a skateboarder but it is also literary greatness. thank you mark
