This discourse, given by Brigham Young in 1856, is one of the great hidden doctrinal classics of that decade.In this discourse, he addresses a number of issues. One of the most shocking is the public manner in which he address blood atonement. This 'secret teaching' of the early years of the Church is extremely misunderstood. In this discourse Brigham doesn't expound on it in depth, but does touch base with the basics, and explains in a clear manner that there are some men who would be better off eternally if they chose to have their own blood spilled.Additionally, he talks about the unhappiness in the marriages amongst the Saints, and makes an unprecedented move - he gives an open invitation for ALL wives to leave their husbands in the next two-week time period. He says that the whining is becoming a damning things, and says that it must stop. If leaving a marriage is what will cause the whining to stop, so be it. But after Oct 6, at conference, should the wives choose to stay with their husbands, then there should be no whining.
