Horace has been invited to a monster-movie party. And he can't tell anyone how much the thought scares him. He pretends to be brave, but it doesn't work-until the day of the party when his friend Fred is even more frightened than he. And then Horace knows just what to do. Holly Keller's lovable leopard who first appeared in Horace returns in this reassuring (and rib-tickling ) picture book for young readers.
Holly Keller, Brave Horace (Greenwillow, 1998) Horace gets an invitation to a Halloween party, and starts acting like a brat because he's scared. Of course, once he actually gets there and has a good time, all is right with the world again. An interesting take on this standard kids'-book theme (which is usually explored through, say, a trip to the doctor or the like), with the lovable characters from the Horace series. Definitely a keeper if you're already a Horace fan. ****
Cute book about an important subject

This is a tale about Horace who is feeling scared about being invited to a spooky party. The book introduces the concepts of fear, bravery and friendship in a way that small children can relate to. A good way to help kids overcome a fear of monsters as well as helping them understand that sometimes it is perfectly natural to feel trepidation in new situations.
