Author Flowers know where of she speaks--the mind of the serial killer. I have admired her other true crime sagas but I think this is her best. Definitely required reading for anyone who wants to understand the tortured pysche of those predators among us or, sadly, to truly understand American society at the close of the last and the beginning of the new century.

When my club read this book, we realized that it was a guide in forensic detection with a detailed police procedure. A heavy subject, but it was presented in a very readable manner. Our daughers certainly benefited in knowing how Bobby Joe Long lured his victims. We thought it was an excellent true crime offering.
A hair-raising, riveting account of a serial killer

In meticulous reportorial style, reminiscent of her work "Blind Fury: The Story of Gerald Stano" the serial killer recently executed in Florida's electric chair, Flowers takes us into the world of serial killer Bobby Joe Long, currently waiting his turn at execution in Florida. As the reader follows her through his rampage of crime, Flowers dispassionately dissects his actions, his motives, his personal profile, and unfolds the macabre results. She gives special attention to the painstaking forensic work by local law enforcement and the FBI identification of fibers which finally led to Long's conviction as a serial killer of nine young women, all of whom he bound intricately with ropes, in grotesque positions, before brutally murdering them. Hence the title, "Bound to Die." Long relented with his tenth victim, however, and released her. Lisa McVey later identified him in court. Flowers also covers the trial and conviction of Long, who was sentenced to die for his crimes, and is now on death row in Florida. Long was defended by flamboyant attorney Ellis Rubin. This book is riveting reading, and is of special interest to those interested in true crime, crime labs, the FBI, forensic detection methods, serial killers, and law enforcement techniques. It is also an eye-opening warning to young women who trust too easily. Highly recommended.
