Black Red Guard is a native of Ferguson, Missouri, and became involved in political organizing as a result of the 2014 uprising. After flirtations with various forms of liberalism, non-Marxist nationalism, and Trotskyism, he discovered Maoism as a result of study and interaction with others who also were radicalized as a result of this uprising and others. This collection traces the theoretical development of a Black youth in the storm center of anti-police brutality struggle in the United States. In it, BRG discusses revolution, reformism, voting, history, and various other topics from the perspective of a Black, queer youth from a working class family. It demonstrates how youth come to Communism through bitter experience and disappointment with reformism and other non-revolutionary paths for change.
