Scientific approach

First of all, no, their is no scientific evidence that proves the existence of bigfoot. However, Krantz is able to, using scientific methods, demonstrate that there is substantial evidence that should warrant true scientific research. The dermal ridge evidence is very convincing. He points out the prejudice that inhibits the mainstream scientific world from even looking at the evidence. In his words, "They will SEE it when they BELIEVE it." Meaning, because they don't believe in bigfoot they would not embarass themselves to look at the evidence, regardless of how strong the evidence is. He concludes that the bigfoot mystery will not be solved soon, pictures and video are not enough, and getting a body would prove extremely difficult.

Scientifically informative.

I bought the title in Spring of 1994 and read it from front to back. It is a good book and provides the reader a scientist's viewpoint into the credible evidence for the existence of sasquatch. Recently, a renewed interest in sasquatch caused me to reread certain chapters. I still highly recommend this text for anyone who wants to review the mounting scientific evidence, but wants to avoid the lunatic fringe. If you are skeptic about the existence of bigfoot, this is the book to read.

Well-written scientific treatment of the sasquatch phenomena

Dr. Grover Krantz has the distinction of being one of the few scientists who accepts the existence of the legendary "bigfoot". With a doctoral degree in physical anthropology from the University of Minnesota and additional training from U.C. Berkeley, he was uniquely qualified to investigate a sighting reported to him by a member of the public in 1968. As a result of his analysis of this sighting, and subsequent analysis of other sasquatch material, he came to the controversial conclusion that the "mythical" creature was in fact real- a conclusion that has cost him dearly in his professional life. Dr. Krantz dismisses all of the paranormal and pseudoscientific interpretations of the sasquatch phenomena, and instead analyzes the mystery from the standpoint of a zoologist. Using the famous "Patterson Film" and various sightings and footprint casts as his evidence, he reconstructs the biology of the creature, and demonstrates why it would be virtually impossible for the whole phonomena to be a hoax (though he readily acknowledges that many sightings and footprints are fake). He concludes the creature is a survival of *Gigantopithecus blacki*, an enormous primate known from the fossil record but thought to have gone extinct over 500,000 years ago. The book is well written and illustrated with Dr. Krantz's own drawings and photographs, and includes a complete bibliography. A must-read for those interested in the scientific aspects of the sasquatch phenomena.
