Book Overview

In recent years, Jan Linn says, religious and political dialogue in the United States has been hijacked by the so-called religious right, a coalition of conservative Christian leaders who purport to speak for all Christians but whose politicized brand of Christianity excludes many and falls short of the true gospel message. Linn argues for a bigger Christianity, one big enough to embrace all of God's people with a message of inclusion and acceptance. In his passionate argument, Linn recovers the prophetic voice of a faith that cannot be reduced to a single nation, race, or class and echoes a call for justice, integrity, and deep faithfulness in the political landscape of contemporary America.

A Faith for Today

Linn outlines a Christianity that is as relevant today as Jesus's example was 2000 years ago. It is a faith based in love and service. It is only 119 pages long, but I found more wisdom in it than in many books that I have read.

God is not a conservative fundamentalist Republican!

This book, by Dr. Jan Linn, is an eye opening book that addresses the need for all Christians to worship God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit without the religious and political entanglements that the fundamentalist conservative Christian right has built around its belief system. Dr. Linn goes to great lengths to point out that God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit are not the exclusive property of any religious or political group, and that the most important aspect of Christianity is to love God, and love all our neighbors, not just the neighbors that are approved by the conservative right wing of the Republican party or the fundamentalist Christian right. Dr. Linn points out that it is not enough to simply believe in Jesus. Jesus calls each of us to be His followers, and Dr. Linn speaks vividly to his readers about what "following" Jesus means for each of us. In so doing, Dr. Linn invites each Christian to know that there is true Christian life outside of the narrow walls that make up the selective beliefs of the Christian right. Read on, Christians: this is a great book that should be read by everyone!
