I have found some of the information in this book very valuable in terms of obtaining an awareness of issues/factors that are likely to have a significant impact on our future in the next 20 years. The book is primarily targeted to businesses wanting to undertake scenario planning/long term strategy development. However I believe a great part of the book will be of high value to anyone interested in visualizing the near future for whatever purpose. (Personally I am using the information to brainstorm potential business ideas)This book is of a very general nature addressing a wide range of issues including:Internationalization/Globalization of Business. Need for change in customer research approaches. (eg Generation X, "The Solitaries") Changes in consumer tastes and profiles. Future of national governments. Impacts of an ageing population. Gap between rich and poor. Growing importance of China and India as commercial powers. Change in the nature of work- shift towards contractual-based activity rather than employment, shift from office to home. Population Growth. Resource issues (energy, food, water) Physical environment issues.(The author then also discusses how to undertake scenario planning)Another very similar book that you may be interested in is Hamish McRae's "The World in 2020".
