This is the best textbook I have seen for preparing language teachers in training to have successful classroom experiences. While the book is grounded in language learning and acquisition theory, it is written at a level that is easily understood by all pre-service teachers. It tells them what they need to know about each topic, how their understanding of the topic will help them in the classroom and provides ample opportunity for teachers to develop ideas and activities that they can USE in the classroom. This book is really a combination textbook, workbook and journal. All pre-service teachers who take advantage of the features of this book will have an excellent resource to take with them into the classroom after they graduate. I wouldn't teach a language teaching methods type course without this book. This book is also an excellent reference for teachers who are already in the schools teaching languages. I have been a language teacher for 30 years and still learned new things from this book. I wish I had had this when I was just beginning, it would have saved me a lot of trial and error. It has good down-to-earth advice, good activity ideas and methods that work from a person who is obviously a teacher not just a theorist.
