Because of Anya is a very good but sad book. The 10 year old girl named Anya has a disease called Alopecia Areata..this disease makes you lose all of your hair. In the book during gym class, one of the girls tugs on Anya's wig and it comes off. Anya is very embarrassed. The book really makes you wonder what the character is going through. I really like this book...I cried during the middle of the book.

Because of Anya is a story about a 10 year old girl who had a disease called alopecia areata. Because of this disease, Anya lost all her hair. Anya do not want her classmates to know that she has a disease and so she wore a wig. Stef, Anya's popular classmate, know that Anya was wearing a wig and she wants to humiliate Anya. Stef told her friends to take off Anya's wig by pulling it. But the embarrassing moment happened to Anya when she was in the gym. While she was playing cartwheel her wig accidentally came off. She was so scared and embarrassed by what happened and she never wants to come back to school because of the humiliation she experienced at the gym. Keely, one of Anya's classmates, pitied her and wants to help her. Keely saw the pain in Anya's eyes so she went and visit Anya and persuaded her to come back to school. Keely said that the only thing that she could do is to give Anya her hair. Keely did it and gave her hair to Anya. By showing Anya that she cares for Anya, Keely went to school bald. So Anya and Keely went to school having no hair. Keely found courage and strength to do something positive for Anya and the two girls became friends.

I can totally relate to this book. I have this disease, and I cried through the entire thing. I felt every single emotion described, and I think it's great for kids to read to raise awareness.
