This book was created by the author after the Chinese New Year from China in 1938 and won the Caddick Gold Medal. The inside pages are black-and-white drawings, which depict the lively atmosphere of Chinese New Year with temple fairs, firecrackers, New Year's Eve dinner, rituals and prayers. The reader is impressed by the pure and cheerfulness of the main character, Beauty, who has only three coins for the New Year's Eve. She first gives the first coin to Lida, a poor girl who needs money for New Year's Eve, then resists the temptation of food and buys firecrackers with the second coin, and the third coin brings her brother, Sheng Yu, fortune. Although she is a little frustrated when the money runs out, she is excited by the fortune-teller's prophecy that she will "rule a kingdom. After a day's adventure in the city, good things come to those who are lucky, and with the help of the girl Rikida, she is able to leave the city and make her way home. All the fatigue and hunger melted away the moment she saw her home. Mom's gentle greetings and hot New Year's Eve dinner are the expectations of every traveler who returns home.
