Depressed college sophomore Chandler Weitz has to change his life. To have any chance at happiness he needs two things, and he needs them right away. He needs a girlfriend and a summer job. He more or less blunders into romance when a pretty redhead decides to take him home with her after a party. He has no idea what a sophisticated college dropout like her sees in a nerd like him, but he's thrilled by his good fortune. The summer job evolves out of a hobby. Chandler and some friends sing in an amateur doo-wop group that's good enough to turn pro in the second half of 1962. The Bear Rock Boys write a few songs of their own, and one of them makes a minor splash on the Philadelphia music scene. It looks like Chandler might be on his way to big-time success in both love and show business.
