An excellent body of knowledge for the novice or seasoned pro, from the expert who continues to do it all with mushrooms: picking, cooking and growing. This is the information mushroom hunters want,... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I first picked this book off a bookstore shelf in Whitehorse when I was headed home with a BUNCH of Morels I picked up on the Kenai Peninsula. I thought there was enough meat to it that I ordered it later. It's a pretty thin volume ~130 pages, but then it isn't too pricey either. There are a couple of pages devoted to preserving morels. I had dried all mine, and Lonik gave techniques for canning and freezing them as well. There are also some 60 pages of recipes, which must be around 50 recipes; I didn't count. I thought there were some good recipes and some good cooking ideas. The book is pretty much just what the title says. That's not to say that it tells all about Morels: it's definitely geared to the collector not the student. If you're looking for a book about collecting morels and what to do with them once you have them, I recommend Basically Morels. If you're looking for different types of information about morels, this probably isn't the book for you.
Great Book, but don't buy "The Curious Morel" as well

This book "Basically Morels" is informative and has some nice recipes inside, however, this book is an almost word for word update of Larry Lonik's book "The Curious Morel", so if you already have that book then don't buy this one. Larry Lonik should be ashamed of himself for ripping off fellow mushroomers, by changing the name of his updated version of "The Curious Morel" to "Basically Morels" just so he can make another dollar.
