Explaining why an imbalance in our brain chemistry is behind a range of health problems, this book tells us what we can do to restore balance and achieve unprecedented levels of physical, mental, and emotional well being. It also explains how to treat serious imbalances, in consultation with a physician, using hormones, antidepressants, and more.
If you are proactive in your own health care this book has great information. There has been a lot more research in the area of neurotransmitters since this book was written but it is still very relevant. It seems as though the authors expect you to take this book to your doctor and ask them to read it. Not something most doctors are going to do. Although the book provides a plan for you to follow it's a bit rocky going it alone. I ultimately went to the current practice of one of the authors and after three weeks my health has improved significantly. I am excited about the prospect of really feeling invigorated again in 2 to 3 months.
Most comprehensive coverage of neuroscience for layfolk ever...and why it plainly pertains to us

This little book has been my bible on all things related to how brain health affects our overall health. And that's saying plenty. It's THE best guide I've ever found -- and I've owned, perused, borrowed many -- on topics that range from migraines to ADD to sleep problems to menopause to drug addictions and the affects of caffeine and on our bodies. Not just for me but for more than one member of my own family. What I like best is that it includes the best of conventional medicine but also the best of alternative medicine; so, even its approach to the subject is "balanced" instead of extreme or narrow. It's helped me countless times to ask some key questions of our doctors, helping us get tests or therapies that have helped solve frustrating medical mysteries. Saved us tons of money, I'll bet!

I subscribe to several Complementary and Alternative Medicine newsletters, so I know a thing or two, and this is one of the best books on the mind, food, nutraceuticals and drugs I have ever seen! I adore this book! The questionaires to determine which neurotransmitters, if any, you are low on, is excellent. Their advice that if you are low on both dopamine and serotonin, you begin by replenishing serotonin first, is utterly sound, I can attest from my personal experience. Their recommendations on nutraceuticals are also sound (I've tried 'em all, and they are dead right, phosphatidylserine rules for building up both serotonin and dopamine.) Their advice on sleep and it's effect on one's neurotransmitters is excellent too. Just the few pages on hormones and their effects on neurotransmitters are worth the price of the book! I discovered everything they say about hormones from (most painful) personal experience, many months of research on the World Wide Web, and much experimentation. I hope if/when I am admitted to medical school I will have teachers half as good as these two MDs.

This book is informative, interesting, and fun all at the same time. The quizzes really taught me something about myself that I never knew, and the program has made me feel so much better, both physically and mentally. I'm a much happier person now, thanks to this book.
Great new book!

The quizzes in this book are great. I was able to quickly figure out why I'm not feeling my best and then immediately start a plan to get myself back on track.I've been on this plan for a few weeks and already have so much more energy -- I'm better rested, eating well, and exercising some too.
